Last call for Leeds workplaces to join city-wide recycling project

The #Leeds By Example project launches on 9 October and the offer to businesses and organisations taking part has now been finalised.

The six month campaign will test the latest thinking on how to increase recycling rates for food and drinks packaging. It will include a combination of ground-breaking technology, new recycling facilities and engaging communications.

Leeds leads in the North for Green GB Week

In 2008 the UK government passed the Climate Change Act, the first legislation of its kind to introduce legally binding emissions reductions targets. The ten year anniversary of the Act will be marked as part of Green Great Britain Week  and Leeds Climate Commission is partnering with the Priestley International Centre for Climate to play an active part in the national programme of events.

Sharing successes and struggles is key to reducing emissions, report finds

Celebrating successes is key to inspiring businesses and organisations to undertake emissions reductions, but sharing what doesn't work can be just as valuable. 

That is one of the findings of a survey conducted by Leeds Climate Commission earlier this year, the results of which have been written up as a report on overcoming barriers to climate mitigation in Leeds.

 

Climate change is on the bill at Ilkley Literature Festival

Academics from the Priestley International Centre for Climate at the University of Leeds are contributing to a range of events with a climate change theme as part of the North of England’s longest running literature festival, which returns this autumn.

The Ilkley Literature Festival has announced its stellar line-up for this year’s event, which runs from 28 September until 14 October and comprises 240 events across 15 venues

White Rose Energy, a partnership between Leeds City Council and Robin Hood Energy, has a new ‘Summer Holiday’ tariff available for a limited period, ending 30 August 2018. The company is a not for profit energy supplier, launched in 2016, that has been designed to put customers in Yorkshire first.

Leeds Clean Air Zone consultation ends 12 August

Leeds City Council is looking for people living, working and commuting in Leeds and the wider region to have their say on its latest proposals to reduce air pollution and protect the health of people in the city. The consultation questionnaire gives people an opportunity to shape the final Clean Air Zone proposals which will be presented to the government later this year. Deadline for responses is 12 August 2018

Volunteers wanted for Leeds tree survey

Volunteers are needed for a large scale survey of trees across the Middleton and Belle Isle regions Leeds being conducted over the summer. 

The i-Tree Leeds project is exploring the value of trees in Leeds and the information collected will be used to support the preservation and creation of green space and woodland across the city.

No previous experience is needed and volunteers will receive training.

Call for Leeds businesses to join exciting new recycling initiative

A new creative campaign that will tackle recycling on the go is calling on businesses and organisations in Leeds city centre to sign up.

Starting in September 2018, 'Leeds By Example' will bring together a ground breaking coalition of local and national organisations to improve recycling of food and drink packaging currently disposed of ‘on the go’. The campaign is being launched by environmental charity Hubbub  in conjunction with Leeds City Council.
