Community led housing for Abbey Mills

Kirkstall Valley Development Trust would like to develop over 55s social housing at Abbey Mills, the empty mill next to the Kirkstall Bridge Retail Park that is owned by the Council. The housing would be in the two thirds of the mill that is not earmarked for the community hub (central and lower blocks) and would be a low car use scheme.  An application for a Homes England grant will be submitted at the end of January to work up the scheme.

The Matter of the Soul

The Matter of the Soul is a sound, sculpture and performance work, created by Kat Austen, Cultural Fellow in Art and Science at the University of Leeds’ Cultural Institute.

The symphony focusses on the difficult problem of emotional engagement with climate change, and aims to engender empathy in humans with the process of dispersal and transformation in the Arctic region. 

Unfrozen: Reports from the ice

What is happening to the world’s ice? Rising temperatures are causing rapid melting in the Arctic and Greenland and new reports show that underwater melt-off in the Antarctic is doubling every 20 years, with significant implications for sea level rise.

University of Leeds scientists working in the field describe the changes they have witnessed through their research in this lunchtime lecture at Opera North’s Howard Assembly Room for Green Great Britain Week.
